Let's Have Some FUNds for today's millennials

Many people admit that they regret not having made better financial decisions earlier on in their lives, and Sun Life Financial Philippines want to change that by engaging today's millennials to prepare sound financial plans for the future.

As part of their thrust to help young Filipinos take charge of their finances, Sun Life started a financial literacy campaign for millennials in key cities of the country. We are grateful to be invited at Iloilo leg held July 22 at Dova Brunch Cafe in Iloilo Business Park, Iloilo City.

The event themed “Let’s Have Some Funds” featured young entrepreneur and social media influencer Katrina Loring and Sun Life’s Visayas Regional Sales Manager Michael Gustilo.

Loring shared in her talk entitled Money Under 30, the several businesses she started at a very young age. She admitted to contending with money mistakes such as zero savings, over spending, and credit abuse that most fellow millennials are prone to make.

She also shared lessons she learned in her financial journey: pay debts, pay bill on time, plan your budget, record your expenses, make savings automatic, and to prepare for rainy days and dreams.

“The art is not in making money, but in keeping it,” she emphasized.

Gustilo, on the other hand, pointed out some ‘money regrets’ of millennials in his talk FUNding Your Life Goals. These are results of excessive spending on wants, starting late on financial management and being dependent on salary as the only source of income.

He emphasized the importance of setting financial goals. “Having clear dreams and life goals will give you a compelling reason to save and invest rather than spend needlessly,” he said.

Sun Life Financial has been helping Filipino millennials embrace the brighter life through their financial literacy campaign and wide spectrum of products that include Life Insurance, Accidental Insurance, and Mutual Funds.
