PRC releases latest matrix, schedule of CPD implementation

PRC will start requiring CPD units for all professionals under regulatory boards in July 2017.

MANILA - Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has released on Tuesday the updated matrix and schedule in requiring Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units for renewal of Professional Identification Cards (PIC).

This new requirement which starts this year is based on the Republic Act 10912 or the Continuing Professional Development Act of 2016 which lapsed into law July last year.

Pursuant to the implementation of the CPD Law, PRC sets the following schedule:
  • January to June 2017 - 0
  • July to December 2017 - 30%
  • January to December 2018 - 60%
  • January 2019 onwards - 100%




PRC has also changed the required units for some professionals, such as dentists and master plumbers. Check below:

120 Credit Units: Accountancy

60 Credit Units: Dentistry

45 Credit Units: Aeronautical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture, Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Criminology, Customs Broker, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Environmental Planning, Fisheries, Forestry, Geodetic Engineering, Geology, Guidance and Counseling, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Librarian, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Technology, Medicine, Metallurgical Engineering, Midwifery, Mining Engineering, Naval Architecture, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Professional Teachers, Psychology, Radiologic Technology, Real Estate Service, Respiratory Therapy, Sanitary Engineering, Social Work, Veterinary Medicine

30 Credit Units: Master Plumbing

NOTE: The Professional Regulatory Board concerned may prescribe their own required CPD credit units through a Resolution subject to the approval of the Commission.




For example, based on the matrix above, nurses only need 45 units of CPD to renew, but CPD Council chair Glenda Arquiza has previously announced that they increased it to 60 units.

It is notable also that Chemical Technician, Dental Technician, Dental Hygienist, Master Electrician, Electronics Technician, Certified Plant Mechanic, Medical Laboratory Technician, Metallurgical Plant Foreman, Mine/Mill/Quarry Foreman, Detailman, X-Ray Technician and Real Estate Sales Person were removed from the list.
