Villanueva seeks to amend CPD Law, extend PRC license to 5 years

Sen. Villanueva is looking to lower required CPD units, extend PRC license validity.

MANILA - Senator Joel Villanueva will be pushing for the amendment of the controversial Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Law due to numerous complaints that his office received from professionals.

Villanueva announced his intentions in his column at Abante, wherein he recognized and showed appreciation for teachers' contribution in the "molding of minds and hearts for Filipino children and advancing the future of the nation."

"Aside from the low salary, lack of teaching materials and classrooms, and the large number of students, they are also burdened by the additional costs of renewing their PRC license," Villanueva noted.

"With all the numerous complaints we received from teachers on the implementation of the CPD Law, we aim to amend the Republic Act 10912."

"We want to lower the required credit units or CPD points, and then extend the validity of the Professional Identification Card (PIC) from 3 to 5 years," he added.




CPD Law, which was authored by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV and approved in 2016, requires all professionals under PRC to earn CPD units before renewing their PIC.

Professional teachers are required to have 45 CPD units during the 3 year renewal period.

A lot of professionals are urging lawmakers to abolish the law as it presents additional burden to due to costly and inaccessible seminars and trainings that have CPD points.

Trillanes, chairman of the Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation, will lead the next hearing on the CPD Law at 11 A.M. of September 4.
