Philippine foresters convention in Iloilo on Sept. 19-21
Around 1,200 registered foresters in the Philippines will troop to Iloilo Convention Center for this year's national convention, in line with Society of Filipino Foresters Inc. (SFFI)'s anniversary.
ILOILO CITY - Western Visayas hosts this year’s national convention of the Society of Filipino Foresters Inc. (SFFI), Sept. 19-21, 2016 at Iloilo Convention Center.
The four-day convention which started Monday and will run until Sept. 21, gathered about 1,200 registered foresters all over the country.
“We are promoting the science of forestry and this conference is being held to update our members of the current technologies and best practices in forestry programs,” said SFFI National Council President Tommy Valdez.
With this year’s theme:"Advancing Sustainable Forest Management to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals", discussions emphasizes Forest Landscape Restoration Mechanisms, Mining Rehabilitation through Forestry, and Carbon Neutral Program.
Other topics include Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Policy Advocacies, SDG Implementation Mechanisms and SDG Opportunities for the Forestry Profession.
Currently, Valdez said that one of the things that their organization was working on was passing a bill on Sustainable Forest Management that had been pending in the Congress.
SFFI is one of the founding organizations of the Council for the Built and Natural Environments under the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA), and serving as the only nationwide organization of professional Filipino foresters open to the more than 10,000 Registered Professional Foresters.
Livino Duran, SFFI Region 6 president, meanwhile hopes that through the various workshops and discussions, the foresters and forestry professionals will be equipped with the current and useful tools in serving their respective organizations and areas.
The national convention is in line with the 68th anniversary of SFFI. [via PNA]
