TESDA to provide 100,000 skills training scholarships in Bicol, Visayas regions
A total of 117,396 beneficiaries will be provided scholarships by TESDA.
MANILA - Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will provide about 100,000 skills training scholarships in Bicol and Visayas regions in 2017, the agency said on Wednesday.
This scholarship program aims to help the youth get jobs easily.
"Providing scholarships would also make quality education accessible to the youth, especially those who cannot afford to go to college," noted TESDA Director General Guiling Mamondiong.
According to TESDA, recent studies have shown that many employers prefer hiring employees who have skills training from TESDA because they are tested and reliable.
"The skills learned from the government agency is designed uniquely for graduates to help them become effective in the workplace," it added.
Meanwhile, TESDA cited that in Region 5, 32,396 scholars would benefit from the program; 25,000 in Region 6 and 30,000 in Regions 7 and 8, with a total of 117,396 beneficiaries.
To make this initiative successful, TESDA has teamed up with the "Liga ng mga Barangay" in promoting the scholarship project in remote areas of the provinces.
Mamondiong said that it would be easier for them to visit far-flung areas and inform the youth of the education program because of the assistance from barangays.
Those who would like to avail of the TESDA scholarship may visit its provincial or regional offices.
