Antique to host 2017 WVRAA Meet
Province of Antique will host the regional sports meet on February 2017.
SAN JOSE de BUENAVISTA, Antique - The Department of Education (DepEd) division of Antique will play host to the 2017 West Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet slated February 1-5 at the Binirayan Sports Complex here.
The WVRAA Meet is a yearly sports event participated in by provinces of Iloilo, Guimaras, Capiz, Aklan and Antique.
As part of the preparations the following are the schools to be used as billeting quarters for each delegation : Antique National School in San Jose, for Guimaras and Iloilo delegations; Atabay Elementary School in Barangay Atabay, San Jose for Antique delegation; Angel Salazar Memorial School also in San Jose for the delegation from Aklan province; Assemblyman Segundo Moscoso Memorial School in Barangay San Pedro, San Jose for Capiz delegation and Advance Central College and St. Anthony’s College for the technical officials.
Dr. Celestino Dalumpines IV, DepEd Antique’s information officer said that several schools and local government units (LGUs) were also reminded to prepare their sports areas as these will be used for other games.
Arnis will be played at the Patnongon covered gym. Patnongon is a town 25 kilometers north of San Jose, the main venue of the WVRAA 2017.
Taekwondo will be played at the Belison Municipal covered gym, another town which is 15 kilometers north of San Jose.
Basketball games will be played at the Binirayan Sports complex, the Barangay San Pedro Gym and the Hamtic covered court.
The annual meet is expected to be a big event, thus other venues will also be utilized such as Gaisano Mall of Antique (billiards), San Jose new municipal market hall (sepak takraw and sipa), Robinson’s Place (wushu)and Tuburan Sang Kabuhi Hall (table tennis).
Meanwhile, Dalumpines said that as of October 21, 2016 there was no go signal yet from the DepEd central office as to who between Antique and Danao City in Cebu won the bidding. [via PNA]
