New Postal ID now approved as primary ID in PH passport application

DFA approves Postal ID as one of primary IDs in passport application.

MANILA - Good news to everyone preparing documents to travel abroad! The new and improved Postal ID is now accepted as primary identification in application for Philippine passport.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) informed the Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) of this new policy through a letter signed by Undersecretary Ariel Y. Abadilla last October 11, 2016.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs is pleased to inform the PPC that the DFA's Satellite Offices in Metro Manila, Regional Consular Offices (RCO's) and Foreign Service Posts (FSP's) now accept the PPC's new digitized Postal ID as a Primary ID in the passport application process," the letter stated.

This means that applicants may use digitized Postal ID as lone proof of identification in securing the passport. Previously, postal ID is just treated as supporting document.

The department is currently revising its forms including the online ePassport Application Form to reflect this change.
